I’ve been making and selling things through Etsy for almost 2 years. I design and craft everything myself, and have been teaching myself the business side of things along the way.
I’d like to share some strategies that have worked well for me, particularly in getting my shop noticed and increasing sales (and growing my Etsy business steadily).

1. SEO research
We all know that using the right keywords will get you sales and grow your store. To nail the keyword game you need to get good at keyword research.
I use several techniques to find great keywords for my products: eRank, Marmalead and Etsy itself.
eRank is easy to use free tool you can integrate with your Etsy shop. There is paid plan as well, but the free one is enough if you are not in the place to pay for it.
Marmalead is paid tool with a 14-day free trial period. For me, it was a bit complicated at first, but after some time I got a hang of it. Since it’s paid tool you can do more extensive research on your keywords and competitors.
After I finish with these two, I switch to Etsy to see what will auto-populate when I enter my keywords.
2. Spy on the bestsellers
When you do your research on Etsy, check for the “bestseller” badge under a listing, click on it and check out the listing photo, title, and description.
You will use this as an inspiration and guidance on how you can improve your listings.

3. Use long-tail keywords
Instead of just writing a general phrase try to be more specific and descriptive. This will help you target high-quality traffic to your shop which will lead to more sales.
Tools like eRank and Marmalead will help you determine whether a keyword you chose is long-tail or not.

4. Match phrases in tags, titles and description
When you start writing your title and description make sure to use exact phrases but stay away from keyword stuffing. Phrases you used in titles copy in tags.
It might happen that long-tail keyword from your title is longer than 20 characters and Etsy won’t let you put it in tags. You should split the phrase into two tags. For example, “minimalist silver necklace” phrase should be separated to “minimalist necklace” and “silver necklace”.
5. Section titles
For easier navigation through your shop, you should divide your shops into sections and name them with relevant keywords for the group of products you will put there.
This also helps with your shop SEO.

6. Keywords in shop pages
You should put keywords that relate to your brand, products and ideal customer in your shop description, shop policies, FAQ, and about section.
This way you will optimize your shop for SEO.
7. Short descriptions
Etsy recommends shortly describing your item in the first sentence of your description using keywords your customer would be using when searching for your item.
Describe your item using relevant keywords as well as provide all important details for your potential customer. Do not stuff your description with random keywords.
8. Etsy shop title
This is a short text that appears under your shop name. Some shops use it to write their “tag line” but you can use the keywords which describe your shop or the products you sell.
9. Have an announcement
A great way to grow your shop and to use the most important keywords is the announcement section.
You can put an incentive offer there like a freebie or a coupon code.
10. Pinterest
Essentially Pinterest is a search engine and a great tool to utilize for your shop. There is a Pinterest integration on Etsy so you can pin directly from your dashboard.
Use your keywords in your profile description as well as your pin description and let the SEO do the work for you.
There you have it — 10 strategies to help you market your products and grow your Etsy business. I’ve listed the strategies in no particular order, as I feel all of these are essential for any Etsy seller.
